There are plenty of hotels that are geared toward business travelers and many offer the same types of accommodations: a comfortable bed, free Wi-Fi, a big television, a nice work station, and in the morning, a little something to eat before you check out. There’s one group of hotels, though, that is going above and beyond in the breakfast department: The Hyatt is serving a great complimentary A.M. Kitchen Skillet breakfast at each of their Hyatt Place locations.

There’s plenty of room to spread out in the spacious dining room, and all the food is set out on a buffet so you can take as much as you like. I had the opportunity to check out the breakfast offerings, and was shocked that it comes with the room! There’s the usual cereal with milk, fresh fruit, bagels, and pastries, but the real standout is a line of breakfast sandwiches, a wise response to the growing trend. Two are on offer at any time, but these are the five that they rotate through:

Hyatt Place Signature Sandwich: potato roll, egg patty, round applewood smoked bacon, and sliced Gouda cheese

Classic Muffin: English muffin, egg patty, ham, and cheddar cheese

Sante Fé Bagel: whole wheat bagel thin, ham, egg patty, spinach, tomato, chipotle mayo

Sunrise Croissant: croissant, egg patty, spinach, mushrooms, and muenster cheese

Southwest Biscuit: biscuit, egg patty, pepper jack cheese, tomato, turkey, roasted green salsa

We can safely say that you’d be hard-pressed to find a better complimentary breakfast at a comparable hotel chain.

The 5 Best Hotels with Free Breakfast, Ranked

They say there's no such thing as a free lunch, but if you choose the right hotel, there is certainly such a thing as a free breakfast. But while hotels with free breakfast once limited their offerings to stale donuts and even staler coffee, these days, hotel chains across the country and upping their free breakfast game to woo travelers looking to get the best bang for their vacation bucks. Below, we ranked the five best free hotel breakfasts offered at chains across America, and while they differ in their menus and approach, they're all doing their part to turn "continental" into a dirty word.

Who doesn&rsquot like being served a free, hot breakfast? Anytime there&rsquos a survey of what travelers want from hotels, you&rsquore pretty much guaranteed to find free breakfast at the top of their wish list. But, we have all probably seen a rather depressing free breakfast lineup at a mid-range or budget hotel stocked with cold cereal, questionable eggs and bland toast.

That&rsquos not at all like the free breakfast you get by being a Hyatt Globalist.

Whether you&rsquore staying on cash or points, Hyatt Globalists get to enjoy a free, full breakfast for up to two adults and two children registered to the room. Each Hyatt property executes this benefit a little differently, but expect to be able to enjoy the breakfast items of your choice in the hotel restaurant.

Some Hyatt properties even let you enjoy the complimentary breakfast via room service at no additional cost, which is the ultimate treat in my book.

This Hyatt property promises an intimate experience not far from Boston&rsquos Logan Airport. The 270 soundproof rooms at Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor allow for quiet reflection while taking in the breathtaking view of the City of Notions.

Guests can take a private car or use one of Boston&rsquos many public transportation options including the MBTA Train and Water Taxi to get to the historic and cultural sites within the city.

Bottom line

Hotels with free breakfast help you save money and start your day off right. Some hotels like Best Western offer free breakfast to everyone (most of the time), while others only offer free breakfast to elite status holders or at certain brands. For example, with Gold Hilton status (which comes complimentary with cards like the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card), you’ll get free breakfast at all Hilton hotels.

Getting a free breakfast, especially if you’re traveling with others, can save a ton of cash. But if you don’t want to worry about elite status, you can still get elite-like perks by booking your hotel stays through the Chase Luxury Hotel and Resort Collection, Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, or Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection.

Do you choose hotels based on whether or not you’ll get free breakfast? What’s your favorite brand?

When You Need to Stay Near an Airport

Although inexpensive hotels can sometimes be found near airports, it often can be difficult to find a decent hotel with an airport shuttle when you have an early-morning departure, late-night arrival or need to overnight while in transit. Here are some Hyatt Category 1 hotels with airport shuttles that you can book for 5,000 Hyatt points per night.

Hyatt Regency Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

The Hyatt Regency Houston Intercontinental Airport features a complimentary airport shuttle, a fitness center and an attractive outdoor pool with cascading waterfalls and stone walls. For 5,000 points per night, you can get a 400-square-foot room with either one king bed or two double beds. Cash prices usually range from $88 to $160 per night before taxes and fees.

Hyatt Regency Dulles (IAD)

Hyatt House Charlotte Airport (CLT)

Location

Know that the Grand Hyatt Kauai is a very large resort. The club lounge is on the third floor in the wing furthest away from the pool area, the Poipu Wing. The third floor sounds like it&rsquos a few floors above the ground, but because of elevation changes and various levels around the resort, you can actually walk right outside from the lounge to eat or drink outside on what seems to be the ground floor.

Be aware that staying near the Club Lounge means you are easily a 10-to-15-minute walk from the base of the pool area.

Enjoy your meal or drink outside at Grand Hyatt Kauai Lounge.

The lounge was expanded in the last year or two to include seating in an additional area, but while the physical space was larger and more inviting than ever, the menu seemed to have shrunk a little bit.

The Grand Club hours were:

  • Continental breakfast from 6:30am to 10am
  • Afternoon snacks from 12pm to 4pm
  • Cocktails and hors d&rsquooeuvres from 5pm to 7pm
  • Cordials and desserts from 7:30pm to 8:30pm

Hyatt House hotel coming to Woodward Corners in Royal Oak

Hyatt House Royal Oak/Beaumont planned for 2021 (Photo: Susan Selasky)

A Hyatt House extended stay hotel is planned for Royal Oak, to be built at the Woodward Corners development by Beaumont.

Construction is expected to begin in May on the five-story hotel and it's expected to open in June 2021. .

Plans are to have 128-apartment style rooms in the 77,824-square-foot hotel next door to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak, which will be able to cater to patients and their families, as well as business travelers, said Beaumont Health COO Carolyn Wilson.

The hotel is the last major piece of Beaumont's Woodward Corners development on Woodward at 13 Mile in Royal Oak.

Several businesses have recently opened, including the eagerly anticipated Woodward Corner market by Meijer.

“We wanted to be absolutely sure we had the right tenants and the right mix,” Wilson said. “And so we erred on the side of more time to make sure it was right. Now I see everything opening we have phenomenal brands and the right mix of services.

The hotel features units with kitchenettes, suites, and one-bedrooms. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor common areas, meeting space, complimentary breakfast, a drink and snack bar, and a 24-hour gym to accommodate visitors with long-term stays. A pet-friendly policy welcomes dogs or cats. There is also a free shuttle service.

“The hotel finishes it off for us," Wilson said. "The hotel is the last place I have space for because we did not want it to be dense. We want walkability, we want great sight lines and we want it to be welcoming."

Pat Paruch, Royal Oak mayor pro tem, said the hotel is a fabulous addition to the community.

“It will be a tremendous asset to the hospital because it will give patients and their families a good respite location right there, next to the hospital. Beaumont draws its clients from a wide range of areas and to have a hotel close by where they can stay, rest and relax … and to have all the other facilities in this area. Shopping or restaurants or fitness facilities, it’s a fabulous addition."

According to Hyatt, there are nearly 100 Hyatt Houses around the world offering residential-style settings for extended stays with extended-stay rates for guests who stay for more than 21 days. This is the first Hyatt House Hotel in Michigan.

Woodward Corners is a 117,000-square-foot development that features a mix of business and restaurants. There's F45 Training fitness, Grabbagreen, New Order Coffee and Wahlburgers. Bucharest Grill, famous for its shawarma, is expected to open in the spring.
